Captain Tzur Zarchi
Tzur was the 40th son of Nahalal to be killed in service. His uncle, Nachum, commander of an armoured battalion, was one of the first, killed during the War of Independence. As a reservist, Tzur undertook a captains’ course, like his uncle, and was remembered by a friend in the unit as someone who could really relate and connect to the needs of the reservists in his charge. Tzur’s mother reflected on his connection to the iconic moshav, “I remember how, after an argument with your sister or with us, you would run off to the refuge of the calves’ shed to get some air and calm down. I recall how I would often see you walking along the fence of the enclosure.”
Tzur was killed on August 13, 2006 in southern Lebanon but an anti-tank missile. He was 27 years old.
