Andrei’s family made aliyah when he was four years old and he settled into Israeli life with ease. The oldest in his family, Andrei was a bright student who was also a social magnet, making connections with all manner of people. His parents asked him to join the Atuda program for gifted students in the IDF, but he insisted on joining a combat unit.
“He so loved the army,” his sister Natalie said. “He was never against going anywhere. A few days ago, he finished a training course, and they entered Lebanon just this week. Last
Tuesday, he spoke with our father for the last time, and told him that they were going into
Lebanon and would return later.” Andrei loved to write hip-hop songs. He recently wrote a song about the army, which he didn’t get a chance to finish, and another song, that he wrote with a friend, called “Summer on the Beach”, where he spoke about parties and “the good life”.
Andrei was killed in southern Lebanon on August 3, 2006 in an anti-tank missile attack. He was 18 years old.
