Staff Sergeant Moran Cohen
Moran was the youngest child in his family. He joined the IDF after spending a year as a youth counselor in a national service program. All of his brothers served in elite commando units, two with the Golani Briagde, and one in the General Staff Reconnaisance Unit. His parents experienced many years of worry and concern due to the high level of danger involved in their sons’ military service. But Moran joined a commando unit as well -- in the Paratroopers. She was under pressure all those years because of her older sons’ service. As soon as one was discharged, the next would sign up. And she was with them the whole way. She was very supportive of them – and very worried. Moran had been in Lebanon since the beginning of the fighting, and you could see how she was preparing for the worst.” Moran’s last home leave was two weeks earlier. One of his aunts said that, “He was an angel. My youngest daughter wrote him a special letter because he was fighting in Lebanon, and asked him to watch out for himself. She stuck a lucky charm at the top of the page, and today she asked why the charm didn’t save him.” Classmates described Moran as “The Little Prince”. He was described as a shy and modest person who was always smiling.
Moran was killed in the village of Bint Jbeil on August 8, 2006. He was 21 years old.
