Staff Sergeant Elad Dan
Elad was the first member of Kibbutz Eilot to be killed in war or a terrorist attack since the Yom Kippur War. “I told my friends not to worry, that the war would end on Wednesday, because I agreed with G-d that my brother would not enter Lebanon,” Boaz said. He found out that Elad had entered Lebanon only because Elad’s cellphone was turned off. “I didn’t believe that I would ever utter the clichés, but Elad really was the object of the entire family’s admiration. My father’s entire life was focused around him, and when he was notified, I told my friends on the base, ‘That’s it, my father is dead.’” Kibbutz members described Elad as a shy person, who showed simplicity and an extremely good heart. “He was one of us. We raised him, and he paid us back through his giving and his endless good heart. If there was ever a boy you could call a ‘diamond’,
it was Elad.” Elad had recently purchased plane tickets for a two-week trip to Thailand. He was supposed to leave August 18. Elad was killed on August 9, 2006 during military operations against Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. He was 25 years old.
