Sergeant Major Gal mizless
Pnina, Gal’s mother, says that when Gal was little, his dog Elsa bit him on the ear. Because of the cut, he had to walk around with plugs in his ears. “Then we used to go to Tiberias a lot. Gal couldn’t go into the water, but he never gave up. We did everything so that he could go in. We put a beach hat on him with a scarf over it and that’s how he ultimately went in. That stubbornness characterized him. Gal was a happy person, warm and very sociable. People always loved him. He had strong faith and his pupils in Bnei Akiva adored him. He loved giving to his family and he always made sure to spoil us. About a year and a half before he was killed, he married his love, Galit, and they lived together in Katzrin. In his bag that was found with him at the site of the tragedy there were also pictures of his wedding.”
“When we heard about the tragedy and we realized that Gal was on one of the helicopters, we sat and waited for the bitter news. We didn’t talk or call anyone. I couldn’t even read Tehilim. Early in the morning, they came to give us the news. The pain was and still is very intense. I know that Aryeh, his father, went crazy that he couldn’t say goodbye to him. He was ready to dig in the ground for one minute of opening the casket and saying goodbye to his son.”
