Staff Sergeant Yonatan Hadassi
Yonatan had a custom. When he would come home on leave, he would take a bag of cashews and a glass of Coke, and we would all sit down as a family and talk all night. Then he would go up to his room in the Kibbutz and sleep.” Relatives said that “Yonatan was a wonderful boy. He had a tremendous smile and the most pleasant laughter imaginable.” His aunt, Dorit Hellman, said that his “magic would affect everyone around him.” Yonatan played the guitar and even put together a band. Relatives said that he loved listening to the band “Ethnix” when he was a kid and would play many of their songs with his cousins. Yonatan’s aunt, Dorit Hellman, described him as, “a blond kid that you couldn’t get angry at.” Yonatan was two months away fromhis discharge and had been planning to travel to Amsterdam with his girlfriend.
Yonatan was killed on July 19, 2006 in fighting with Hizbullah terrorists on the Lebanese side of the border near Moshav Avivim. He was 21 years old.
