First Lieutenant sagi berkovitz
Avraham, Sagi’s father, says that Sagi loved cars. “From a young age he knew how to recite the names of cars and he would play with them for hours. When he grew up, he loved music and he invested a lot of time and money into it. He loved listening to the Beatles and Pink Floyd. At age 16, as part of his studies at the boarding school, Sagi was already wearing his uniform and this made him very excited. Sagi loved the army very much and he planned to continue as a permanent soldier. The tragedy happened in the first month of his permanent service. He told me that he wants to use his first salary as a permanent soldier to get tickets for the entire family to travel outside of Israel.”
Pnina, his mother: “After the bombing in Bet Lid, I bought him a small book of Tehillim. I wanted it to protect him. We got back this book, together with his personal bandage that was burned. The trauma was difficult, and with that, we are trying to transmit life. Sagi always encouraged everyone and it was important for him to transmit pleasantness. He would wait for his friends in his unit when they would return from navigations and he would receive them with coffee and cookies. Everyone loved him very much.”
Avraham: “A night before the tragedy, I dreamed that he was killed. It scared me. Since then I don’t dream about him and I would give everything to dream about him again.”
