Sergeant danny zahavi
In Danny’s room, his computer stands as it was [before his death]. Leah, is mother: “Danny was addicted to computers. He played day and night. He looked for all sorts of challenges and adventures and discovered a very high level of technologica capabilities. He really loved experiments and everyone called him ‘the Israeli Macgyver’. Among his personal things, a handmade helicopter which he drew in eighth grade was found. After the tragedy, I started to wonder if there wasn’t some sort of coincidence here…”
Shmuel, his father: “We made Aliyah to Israel from Romania in 1973. Originally, we worked many hours and Danny would stay with his sister, Yehudit, a lot. The connection between them grew stronger and they were very good friends. His death left us shocked and Yehudit was significantly impacted. It was very hard for her. She wanted to get away and unfortunately, she left Israel for Melbourne, Australia. We searched among the objects that came back from the site of the tragedy and we didn’t find anything that belonged to Danny. I saw how hard it was for Yehudit and in order to make her feel better, I gave her a simple pen that I found and told her ‘Here. This was Danny’s”.
