First Sergeant Major nir ben chaim
In the center of Kibbutz In the center of Kibbutz Yifat, there is a playground, “Nir Park” that Nir’s family established in his honor. His parents, Yehudit and Yosef, say that Nir actually never finished being a child. Yehudit: We didn’t know how to memorialize a boy that was just born. Yoram, Nir’s oldest brother, brought up the idea to turn the Kibbutz’s playground into a park in his memory, into a lively place, full of children and action. Nir was loved by children. He was always happy, captivating and full of beauty. This park symbolizes him in the best way possible, full of love for people, children, and adults, as one. Nir was born on Shabbat on a day when Rosh Hashanah began and in addition to that, he was born circumcised. It is said that Tzadikim like that who are born circumcised already on Rosh Hashanah and Shabbat are on a very high spiritual level. This suits the character description of Nir very much.”
Yosef: Nir grew up in a house where everyone served in combat units, so he really didn’t see any other way. He grew up with our stories and wanted to serve like us. We were very involved with our kids’ army lives. During the entire year and a half that Nir was able to serve in the army, I was full of worries, much more than how I worried for my other children. More than once I had the thought in my head: ‘How will I act if G-d forbid I will be a bereaved father?”
