1989- Shai Akirav
Shai was born in 1969 in Tel Aviv. He was the youngest son of parents who made Aliyah from Iraq. He loved folk dancing and for five years he was a member of the “Paamei Aviv” dance group. He was very connected to his family, and especially to his older brother’s daughters. In 1988, he was drafted into the IDF where he served in the Communications Unit in Marj a Youn, Lebanon. In 1989, he died while serving in Southern Lebanon. He is survived by his parents and brothers. Shai’s family named a classroom after him at the Center for Babylonian Jewish Heritage” in Or Yehuda.
