First Sergeant Major avishai gidron
Rafi, Avishai’s father: “Avishai and I were good friends. We had a very strong bond and we made sure to share everything with one another and consult one another. He had a very mature train of thought and I was lucky to learn a lot from him. He shared his military experiences with me and that is how I knew about his love for the army and his thoughts about continuing to have a military career. We both loved sports and I would accompany him to basketball and handball games that he played in. Our shared experiences will be with me forever. Avishai was a flower that was picked too soon.”
Amit, his mother: “Avishai was sensitive and very attentive to me. Sometimes he could read me with only one look. He was a very intentional guy, sociable, and positive. I always knew about his strength and that he loved very much to help his fellow man, but the fact that he was the connecting string between his friends and full of such incredible strengths, we learned after he was killed. He was very warm and he was a good friend to his sisters, Orli and Meirav, and their children as well. They had a very special bond. He also always gave me the feeling that nothing could ever happen to him. I was scared of car accidents more than I was of the army. I thought that it would be safer for him in a helicopter.”
