1998- Omer Ashad
Omer was born in 1978 in Petach Tikva. After being drafted in 1997, he wrote in his journal, “I was drafted to become a Paratrooper. I fell in love with the army as a whole and especially with the Paratroopers. I proudly came back in the uniform.” In September 1998 he sent a letter from Lebanon, to his girlfriend Katy, “Everything is fine here. Don’t worry. The place is quiet and not dangerous. The view is gorgeous.” During his last telephone conversation, he told his mother, “Mom, I got an interesting and cute role. Tell the whole family I said ‘Shana Tova’”. In September of 1998, Omer was killed in an ambush in Lebanon. He is survived by his parents and brother.
