2002- Elad Grandir
Elad was born in 1981 in Haifa. Elad was the oldest son and grandson in the family. When he was two years old, he became an older brother to twins, Eitan and Ido. When he was in the first grade, Elad and his family travelled to Iowa City for one year. Upon returning to Israel, Elad flourished in his familiar surroundings. In July of 1999, Elad proudly joined the “Nachshon” battalion. Elad served as a commander over a unit which found terror cells. Elad was loved and admired as a commander. He always cared for his soldiers and turned them into professional, united fighters. In 2002, Elad died in battle in Emanuel, when he was just 21 years old. Elad led his unit as they chased a group of terrorists who just a day earlier carried out an attack in Emanuel which killed 7 people and injured many more. Elad and his soldiers saw the terrorists hiding in a river and starting going after them. As shots were exchanged, Elad was killed and three other soldiers were injured. Elad was posthumously promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. Elad is survived by his parents and twin brothers.
