First Sergeant Major alejandro hoffman
Ale’s parents, Alicia and Roberto, say that Ale was a born leader. “They called him the little general”. Alicia: He was very mature for his age and when we made Aliyah to Israeli from Argentina, he wanted to mix into the society immediately. Before we made Aliyah, we explained to the children what the pros and cons are if we leave everything and go up to Israel. We took a vote and decided to make Aliyah. The democratic way in which we raised them, gave Ale a lot of independence and also Chutzpah, which sometimes helped him advance things.”
Roberto: “After the tragedy, for many years we were “the parents of”. Slowly, we saw that our identity was disappearing. Today, it is different. We talk about Ale often, but we also do a lot of things for us. Ale was the only victim in the helicopter tragedy that studied in the educational institution “Har Vegay”. Since then and until now, there is a special day there on Yom Hazikaron which is part of the activities of the organization to memorialize fallen soldiers from the tragedy. This day is built upon dialogues between students, young people from the area, army men and women and bereaved parents and deal with political and social topics. That helps give me closure with everything that is connected to my son.”
