Sergeant Major Gilad Zussman
Gilad was always walking around with a huge smile on his face, was always happy to help, and was a very humble person. He was never proud, and whenever you spoke to him, he always gave you his undivided attention. He was interested in what you were doing. He would give you feedback, and the feeling that you were something special, without talking about himself or even hinting that he was also doing great things. He had all the good qualities that a person could have. Gilad worked as a plain clothes security officer for El Al Israel Airlines. When he received his emergency call-up notice, he immediately reported for duty. Gilad’s father-in-law Nachum Levran, said that, “He was the salt of the earth. He was a wonderful father and terrific husband. But we are believing people, and this was his destiny. We receive this decree with pain and we salute the bravery and beauty of the hero.”
Gilad was killed on August 9, 2006 in an IDF operation against Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. He was 26 years old.
