first sergeant shlomO buchris
Shlomo was named for his father's brother, also a paratrooper, who was killed in the Six-Day War. When he was drafted, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, uncle and three brothers and join the paratroopers. Shlomo studied at the Pardes Hannah agricultural school and joined his parents in maintaining a farm where they bred fish and grew vegetables and flowers to export. Shlomo was adventurous and curious, travelling all over the country and the world to quench his interests. A talented artist, he created statues and stained glass while his love of soccer made his bachelor pad on the moshav the meeting place for all his friends to gather and watch the games.
Shlomo, along with a cousin Yossi Karkash, and ten other soldiers was killed in a rocket attack on Kfar Giladi on August 6, 2006. He was 36 years old.
