Sergeant Haran Lev
Haran was the oldest son out of three in his family. A quiet boy who enjoyed books and stories, he was also known for the detail he went to in preparing his Purim costume each year. His father Gabi said that the last time he was home, Haran asked for a camera with which he could document the war. “Apparently, he had a bad feeling. He asked that I find him a camera, and told me that his unit had a black sense of humor. They wanted to make circles around pictures of their friends and guess who would come back from the fighting. ‘You know, Dad,’ he told me, ‘It’s Lebanon. You go in, and you don’t know whether you will come out.’ He apparently felt something, but didn’t want to tell us.”
Haran was one of 19 soldiers killed in on August 12, 2006 fighting Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. He was 20 years old.
