Staff Sergeant Ido Garbovsky
When he finished high school, Ido joined the IDF and served in the same unit which his father commanded in the first Lebanon war more than 20 years prior. “I am proud of my son for joining the armored corps,” said his father. “I was very happy that he wanted to continue in my footsteps.” He spoke with Ido for the last time just the day before he died. “He called me in the middle of dinner, and said that they were all ready to go out and join the action,” said his father. “He told me that he would not be in touch for a few days.” Ido used to love surfing, and had planned on attending a Ziggy Marly concert. “In the end, because of the war, he gave his ticket to a friend,” said his father. “He enjoyed spending time with his friends, he loved life, and he really loved the Land of Israel. Ido was killed in the Wadi Saluki region of Lebanon on August 12, 2006. He was 20 years old.
