Sergeant Yaniv Herschkowitz
As a child, Yaniv was somewhat of a rascal, but his adorable smile was disarming. During his school years, Yaniv showed a talent and interest in mathematics, physics and related subjects. Even though he was a sports nut, and spent lots of time in the gym body-building, Yaniv excelled in school. In June of 2006, in anticipation of his imminent release from the army, Yaniv asked his sister to get him registration details for the Technion, the MIT of Israel, where he planned to study engineering. Yaniv was killed on July 14, 2006 when a Hezbollah-fired rocket hit the INS Hanit off the coast of Beirut. He was 21 years old.
