First Sergeant Major EMil Azulay
Daniel, Emil’s father: Emil was a very curious boy, full of love for animals. He started blossoming in his studies only after he transferred to a boarding school in Kannot, there a desire to study veterinary medicine grew in him. Emil was very family oriented and even in spite of the distance, there was a warm bond there. He gave everyone the feeling that he is so close to them. I worried about him all the time and I always told him, ‘Emil, wherever you will be, when you scream Dad, I will be there immediately’.
After the divorce of his parents, Shoshana and Daniel, Emil moved to Eilat with his father and brother. Only after a few years, Smadar joined the family and Emil and Smadar formed a strong and brave relationship.
Smadar: “He did a lot in his short life. He went to Poland with a group of students that excelled [in their studies], he received the Minister of Education’s award for research that he conducted at the Weizman Institute, he was a counselor at “El Sam” and a volunteer at MADA. In the army he also found more ways to keep learning: he did a medic course and a trauma course, and always set for himself new objectives. I remember that his service was always accompanied by concern. On the evening of the tragedy, I felt that something had happened to him. We always had a sense of telepathy between us”.
